Function: The cover screw is placed into the implant immediately after surgical placement to protect the internal connection from bone and soft tissue ingrowth during the osseointegration period. It sits flush with or just below the crestal bone level and is removed at the second-stage surgery when the healing collar or prosthetic components are connected.
